[/I] of all places, when he could easily have gone to America and understood the language. Then he changed his mind and realized that here was where he wanted to be. He couldn’t explain why, only that it was, and he was content enough with that. His black bicycle groaned under him as he took a sharp corner, knowing where he was headed despite how far away it was. There were curry stands on nearly every corner, but only this little place sold sundal. It wasn't as good as Mum's, but it was decent. He licked his lips in anticipation, the breeze flipping back his hair and ruffling his scarf. Jeri was still surprised that Brittany had kept to giving him the one with the multi-colored tassles, he could have sworn she was going to give him the one that looked bright pink from far away, but that was his sister, always tricky. The ride passed easily enough in the cool weather; he worked up enough of a sweat that he didn't notice the wind but as a help, not a hindrance, chilling him. On stopping and locking his bicycle, he had to shake his head and laugh at the proprietor of the restaurant already holding out a glass of lassi for him to take. "You really don't have to do this, water would be fine," he said in Hindi as he took the glass and gulped at the yoghurt drink, taking the door from her so she could walk through. "You're our best customer, Connors-raja," she told him plainly, "and you truly understand the food, how could we not?" Shaking his head at her again he took his usual seat, sipping at the water waiting there for him, raising an eyebrow at the parokas beside it. Knowing it would be futile to argue with his hostess again, he merely dipped the fried caulliflower into the chili sauce accompanying and chewed, pulling out his Engineering book with his free hand. His professors had been nice enough to allow him to buy two copies - English and Japanese. He could sort of make out some of the words in the Japanese edition, but the English one assured that he could self-teach himself everything, so he didn't fail. A quick finger to his chin kept the escaping sauce from getting on his shirt or waistcoat, and he sipped again at the lassi before diving into his work.[/ul] [/size]

( TAGGED ) OPEN ( STATUS ) COMPLETE This afternoon had been a surprise and a joy for Aiko. Her mother treated Aiko to a new restaurant. This place they had gone to was new to Aiko. Not that she didn't enjoy the food, it was just different from what she was used to. At least it wasn't like the last surprise dinner outing, the place reeked of tuna and sushi. She remembered her mother teasing her for not liking sushi. Instead they got take out somewhere else, then went home to watch a movie together. Moments like these were moments Aiko treasured. Since her mother was always at work, Aiko barely saw her. Working nights and sleeping during the day.
The girl's mother had left for work and left Aiko to enjoy her afternoon. In fact she had a after school class in a few hours. She really could not wait for it either. Yesterday was a big test and today was the day for the test results. By her side was her backpack filled with books. For now however, she had her current romance novel out. No one cared to even see what she was reading, no one from school to even see what she was reading, why not read her secret indulgence. Everything in the book seemed so romantic and had so much drama, best kept in the book. I'm so happy I don't have to deal with any of this, Aiko thought.
As her mind drifted back into reality for a moment, she heard people talking in Hindi. Was not surprising at all, she had been hearing it for awhile. Times like this I wish I was fluent in every language, Aiko thought. However, Latin or French was on her next language to learn list. Learning English had helped out with talking to many people. Something she was relieved to have learned before her father divorced her mother. Her father had taught her to read, write, and speak English. Aiko then began to think of what what he was possibly doing. If he had a new family, or if there were problems with his new wife. With holidays approaching, she was expecting a letter in hopefully a week or two.
Coming out of her thoughts she felt her phone vibrating and the usual ringtone. Blushing a little at the few looks past to her, she quickly flipped it open to speak to her mother. "Hi, mom. Everything alright?" Aiko asked. "Oh, you're going out of the city?" Aiko's smile faded and she nodded. "Okay, well I hope you have a nice time. Okay bye."

[/i] Aiko said and closed the phone. Her gaze went to the rest of her food and she moved a bit with her finger. Was bad enough hardly seeing her, but her leaving the city for a few weeks? Aiko set her phone on the table and looked up. Seeing the blonde guy almost miss the sauce was kind of amusing. She then recognized him, Jericho Conners a guy she had heard briefly about. Taking some college courses at the University, she was bound to here something about people. With hearing so many names circle around her, she would not be able to absolutely ignore everything she heard. All she knew about Jericho was his name and that he was from India. Realizing she was staring and thinking about a guy, she quickly turned a bright red and her gaze went directly back to her book. Oh dear god, Aiko thought.
